Our Story

Love at first send

Tim Wind and Thomas Walsh met in Seattle on October 4th, 2013 through a local climbing gym called Seattle Bouldering Project.  As a new art teacher and a fledgling outdoor educator, they hit it off on their first date of dinner and a showing of The Evil Dead at a local retro cinema.  Over the following months, they connected over Star Trek, art, literature, philosophy, theology, hiking, backpacking, travel, and education.  They would often take walks, go on hikes, or go climbing together at the climbing gym.  They would frequently write each other long letters during their early months of getting to know each other, sharing deep thoughts about the world and their place in it.

It was a voyage of 7 years before they got engaged, and almost 9 years until they’ll tie the knot.

Here are some fun facts about Tim and Tom from since they met:

-          They have been to 24 States (and counting!)

-          They have visited 5 National Parks

-          They have been to 4 different countries.

- They bonded over watching all 7 seasons of Star Trek Voyager.

-          They have both visited each other’s hometowns of Las Vegas, NV, and Denton, TX.

-          They have backpacked over 1,000 miles together in almost every corner of Washington State.

-          They have been rock climbing in 3 different states and 1 different country.

-          They are always watching at least one British competition reality TV series.

-          They especially bond over Chinese food and Mexican food.

-          They have developed full careers as a public school art teacher and a YMCA program director.

-          They bought their first home together in 2020 in Seattle’s Hillman City neighborhood.

-          They LOVE getting people together to have a great time! (i/e our wedding!)

Accomodations

Guests will need to book their own accommodations. Please let us know if you need assistance of any kind! There are plenty of camping options nearby, just ask us!

YMCA Camp Terry is located outside of Issaquah, Washington, about a 30 minute drive east of Seattle. Many people from out of town might find cheaper hotels and rentals on Seattle’s “Eastside”, which is where Camp Terry is located. Look for accommodations in cities like North Bend, Issaquah, and Snoqualmie. Nearby Preston and Fall City also have rental options.

Out of town guests who have not been to the area may choose to stay in Seattle, just be aware that Seattle is about a 30 minute drive from Camp Terry. It will also be the height of tourist and cruise season, meaning accommodation pricing in Seattle may be higher than normal.

Rental Cars from SeaTac Airport can be expensive. You might find some success and cheaper options by renting a vehicle through Turo.
